If you own a dog, you understand.

My brother’s two-year old golden retriever named Murphy had an aggressive, cancerous tumour on his spine that had taken away his ability to walk.  My brother had a difficult decision to make.  Not “should I put him down,  but when do I put him down?”

If you own a dog,  you understand.

I was looking at some pet sympathy cards.  Most pictured golden retrievers running at the beach and sitting on a hill in front of a sunset.  I couldn’t do it.  It didn’t feel right –  like rubbing salt in a wound.  Murphy is a golden retriever.

If you own a dog,  you understand.

Here is a photo of Murphy as a puppy.

We miss him a bunch.
